Employee group claims Charter owes up to $73 million in wages
Charter Communications Inc. owes up to $73 million in wages, current and former employees claim in a bankruptcy court filing that tries to estimate the size of a claim for 2,800 workers.
A group calling itself the "Goodell Class Plaintiffs" said the claim may be $49 million to $73 million, according to documents filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan. The group last year sued Town and Country-based Charter in a Wisconsin court.
Charter’s Chapter 11 reorganization plan also is being challenged in bankruptcy court by lenders, led by Wells Fargo & Co instant payday loan. The lenders say the plan to reinstate $11.8 billion in debt doesn’t account for risks involving a change in control. Paul Allen, the Microsoft Corp. co-founder who is Charter’s current controlling shareholder, would cede control of the company under the plan.
